Foster

Foster families are a critical part of our shelter’s successful operations.

With limited shelter space and our commitment to no-kill sheltering, foster families are a lifeline for many of our adoptable pets. They provide a safe haven while animals wait for their forever homes, recover from surgery, or get the extra TLC they need to thrive. Every animal placed in a foster home not only receives love and care but also opens up space at our shelter to save another life.

We know that one size doesn’t fit all, so we offer several foster options to match your lifestyle and comfort level from short weekend getaways to longer-term stays, even foster-to-adopt opportunities. No matter which program you choose, you’ll be making a direct, positive impact in a pet’s life. If you’re ready to open your heart and home, please fill out the application below or call us at 269-637-5062.

Long-Term Foster

Give a pet a cozy place to call home until they’re ready for adoption or find their forever family. This is perfect for those who can commit to a longer stay and want to watch their foster pet blossom over time.

Furry Getaway

Host a pet for a mini-vacation, usually 2–3 days over a weekend. It’s a great way to give a shelter animal a break, learn more about their personality, and shower them with love — without a long-term commitment.

Foster to Adopt

Thinking about adding a new furry family member? This two-week trial lets you foster a pet while deciding if adoption is the right fit for you both. Foster-to-Adopt animals are chosen at the discretion of the staff and not all available pets may be eligible.

Pet's in Need of Foster

The pets below are current Al-Van residents who could really use a break from the shelter. Some are recovering from medical care, while others are simply waiting for their spay/neuter surgery or a little extra time to grow and gain confidence.

Many of these pets are also eligible for foster-to-adopt, meaning you can foster them in your home until they are ready for adoption and then make it official.

By fostering, you give these animals a safe place to relax, learn, and shine while they wait for their next chapter.
