Humane Education teaches students to care for the animals in their homes and communities, how to accept and fulfill their responsibility to companion animals and to understand the consequences of irresponsible behavior. It is about fostering kindness, respect and empathy for both humans and animals.
The education department at Al-Van, offers programs to pre-school through 5th grade students of our community's schools. The presentations include "Safety Around Animals", "Bite Prevention", "Pet Overpopulation", and "Responsible Pet Care & Training".
FACT: 1 fertile cat can produce 3 litters a year. Average # of kittens: 4 to 6. Theoretically, if 5 years, 1 cat and her off-spring can produce 62,178,589 cats.
FACT: 1 fertile dog can produce 2 litters a year. Average # of puppies: 6 to 10. In 5 years, 1 dog and her off-spring can produce 255,871 dogs.
FACT: Police reports indicate 4,500,000 dog bites every year. Children under 12 years old are the primary victims.
FACT: Criminals very often start out by killing and torturing animals as kids.
FACT: Bullying among our small children is a major problem in our schools.
